Premier League fans have been dealt a heavy blow by the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson who has confirmed that match venues will not be open to them by October 1.

Fans are concerned that the situation could remain the same for several months due to the pandemic and now Boris Johnson has dashed their hopes.

Recall that football stadiums were closed to fans since mid-March, but football lovers have been craving for a return into the stands amid the pandemic.

Prime Minister Johnson said: “We have to acknowledge that the spread of the virus is now affecting our ability to reopen business conferences, exhibitions and large sporting events.

“So we will not be able to do this from October 1 and I recognise the implications for our sports clubs which are the life and soul of our communities, and my right honourable friends the Chancellor and the Culture Secretary are working urgently on what we can do now to support them.”

According to the BBC, Premier League fixtures are likely to remain behind closed doors well into next year.

And Johnson’s comments are coming barely 24 hours that Ilkay Gundogan tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus according to the information from Manchester City.
