Former Chelsea star, Joe Cole says he was surprised by Thomas Tuchel’s decision to drop Christian Pulisic on the bench for the Champions League semi-final second leg tie against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

Joe Cole believes Pulisic will have been left ‘raging’ with the decision.

Chelsea defeated the 13-time Champions League winners 3-1 on aggregate to set up an all Premier League final against Manchester City on May 29.

Timo Werner and Mason Mount scored for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, having played out a 1-1 draw in Spain with Pulisic scoring the Blues’s only goal last week.

“It surprised me,” Cole said on BT Sport. “Havertz has played himself into it. I think it’s the one where Tuchel would have been sitting there, with Werner, I think he runs off the ball better than anyone in this squad.

“Pulisic dribbles and drives with the ball, but Werner is the one. If I’m Pulisic now, I’m raging because it’s a big game and you feel like you’re playing well.

“But Havertz is one of them, I think he’s put him centrally to come off into the pockets and to allow the space for Werner to run in behind.”
