Two suspected fake soldiers were on Tuesday arrested in the Sagamu area of Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Command said the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the DPO of Sakura police division.

DAILY POST gathered that four men, who were clad in military camouflage, suddenly alighted from a Sienna bus at Sabo market Sagamu and caused pandemonium.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told DAILY POST in a statement on Thursday that the suspected fake soldiers beat up an elderly market woman and disrupted commercial activities in the market.

In the course of the altercation, “a serving soldier arrived at the scene and demanded the identity of the suspects. But, instead of identifying themselves, they started boarding commercial motorcycles to escape from the scene, hence the distress call to the police,” Oyeyemi said.

As a result of the information, the DPO of Sakura division, CSP Dahunsi Ronald, reportedly led his patrol team to the scene where two of the suspects were arrested with the help of members of the public.

According to Oyeyemi, an angry mob had descended on the suspects and attempted to hijack the suspects, saying they were quickly whisked away from the scene by the police.

The arrested suspects, the police said, are identified as Joseph Uzor and Obadeyi Quadr.

“Recovered from them are two pairs of Army camouflage uniform, two pairs of black boots, one camouflage vest, one camouflage fez cap, one Samsung phone and a sum of ten thousand eight hundred naira. They are strongly suspected to be part of the robbery syndicate who used to operate in military outfit along Sagamu-Benin expressway some of who were recently apprehended,” it was learnt.
