Marcos Alonso was reportedly tongue-lashed in front of his teammates by Frank Lampard following Chelsea’s draw against West Brom.

The Blues were 3-0 down after just 30 minutes and the Spanish left-back was responsible for two of the goals scored by the newly-promoted side.

Alonso’s misjudged header led to Callum Robinson’s first goal in the third minute while he left Kyle Bartley unmarked for the Baggies’ third goal.

Cesar Azpilicueta was brought on for Alonso while Matteo Kovacic made way for Callum Hudson-Odoi which proved to be effective as the wrestled back to earn a 3-3 draw at the Hawthorns.

Lampard was asked why he made two substitutions at half-time and the English boss took the opportunity to aim a subtle dig at Alonso, saying:

“To give a bit of urgency to the team, a speed of pass, to move it. Azpi brings personality straight into the team, even at left-back.”

According to the Athletic, Alonso refused to join the rest of the substitutes at half time and the Spaniard waited behind to have a shower.

The reports also added that Alonso tried to watch the rest of the game from the team bus and decided to return to the stands a few minutes later.

It is understood was angry at the former Fiorentina star but praised the rest of the team for earning for their team spirit that helped them to earn a point against West Brom.

Alonso has been one of the players expected to offloaded by Chelsea during the transfer window but with the arrival of Ben Chilwell, the Spaniard will have limited opportunities at left-back.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Chelsea fans believe Cesar Azipilicueta made more impact when he took over the captainship from Thiago Silva in the second half against West Brom.

The Blues were 3-0 down after 30 minutes and Silva made a blunder that caused West Brom’s second goal on his Premier League debut.
