Two Irish holidaymakers in Mallorca have been arrested after allegedly attempting to pay for drinks on an night out with fake Monopoly money. 

The tourists, both aged 18, were in a popular pub in Punta Ballena, located in the notorious party destination of Magaluf. 

They were allegedly intoxicated on Tuesday night when they discovered the fake money on the floor of the bar, according to local media.

It is understood the notes were a part of a promotion from the pub which took the form of Monopoly banknotes, and were clearly marked as not a legal form of payment (stock image)

The Irish teenagers allegedly attempted to buy drinks using the notes. 

A waitress then reportedly noticed what they were doing and informed the manager. 

Local authorities were called and arrived on the scene to find the bank notes reportedly stuffed into the teenagers’ pockets. 

The two men appeared before a judge on Thursday morning and were released on bail. 

They have been charged with non-serious fraud.
