‘Tiger King’ Joe Exotic Is a Scumbag – So Are His Z-List Celebrity Defenders

“Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness” is the latest Netflix docuseries to take the world by storm. The main character, Joe Exotic, has become the subject of internet fame of late, including talk of a presidential pardon. The shady former zookeeper is serving 22 years in prison for killing five tigers and hiring a hitman to kill Carole Baskin. Who exactly is “Tiger King” star Joe Exotic? In short, Joe Exotic is a scumbag. I highly doubt that anyone would have thought differently in May of last year – before he got the Netflix treatment. He was convicted of nine violations of the Endangered Species Act, including killing five tigers. And eight violations of the Lacey Act, which prohibits trade in wildlife that has been illegally taken, transported, or sold. Exotic even attempted to hire a hitman to kill the CEO of a non-profit animal sanctuary. Thankfully, he unknowingly tried to recruit an undercover FBI agent to carry out the deed. So yeah, Joe Exotic is a thoroughly despicable human being. Enter the ‘Tiger King’ A little over a year following Exotic’s incarceration, Netflix released a documentary series focusing on the saga of Joe Exotic. It exposes how disgusting people like him abuse and exploit wild animals for profit. The docuseries has proven widely popular, especially in the COVID-19 lockdown-era in which we currently live. He’s taken to social media to demand a pardon from U.S. President Donald Trump and filed a $94 million lawsuit. His list of demands had me laughing almost as much as Exotic’s ridiculous hair. Following the Netflix show, Joe Exotic found Z-list celebrity support Please understand that I use the term “celebrity” very loosely. First up is Cardi B. Taking to social media to claim she was starting a GoFundMe page for Joe Exotic, Cardi B has since had to embarrassingly back down on her plans after finding out it wouldn’t be legal. Source: TwitterOf course, she claims she was “just playing,” which is an excuse for posting without engaging her brain first. Source: TwitterIt’s not just wannabe rap stars who are at it. Co-host of The View, Meghan McCain, is on the Exotic bandwagon as well. She joked(?) that he deserves a presidential pardon. Source: TwitterHopefully, she was joking, but as one Twitter user replied, you can never be too careful in this day and age. Source: TwitterThis highlights the power that Netflix has today You would hope that the majority of viewers realize that the intent behind the docuseries by Netflix is to entertain, not inform. The trial of Joe Exotic saw him sentenced to 22 years. I doubt that there’s anything in the Netflix series that wasn’t covered during the actual criminal process. It seems insane that I feel the need to clarify that point, but when our celebrities and talk show hosts are spewing the kind of crap that we’ve seen on social media, you can never be too careful. While the focus today is very much on social distancing, we shouldn’t forget about social (media) responsibility.
