According to the former president, events that occurred before the emergence of the Biden administration indicate that all citizens should patriotically safeguard the principles of democracy.
Jonathan expressed the hope that the new administration will lead to a mutually beneficial relationship between the US and Africa.
In another news, the travel ban place on nations like Nigeria, Eritrea, Yemen, and Sudan by the Donald Trump-led administration has been lifted by President Joe Biden, the recently-inaugurated leader of the United States.
This is one of the 17 executive orders issued by President Biden just after the inaugural ceremony that installed his government, The Nation reports.
Reverting the earlier policy of his predecessor, Biden described it as discriminatory and as such, an assault on what the US stands for.
Meanwhile, in line with the tradition of transition in the US, Joe Biden said his immediate predecessor Donald Trump left for him a “generous” note at the Oval office.
Biden and Senator Kamala Harris were inaugurated on Wednesday, January 20, as US president and vice respectively after weeks of tension characterised by an attack on The Capitol by the pro-Trump crowd.
Although Trump was not present at the inauguration – with the former president still bearing his conviction of alleged electoral fraud in the November 3 election – Biden said his predecessor was generous enough to drop him a letter.
