Things, however, escalated on Tuesday night, October 220, as security forces allegedly opened fire on peaceful protesters in Lekki, Lagos, which also reportedly led to the loss of lives.

Nigerian Army, has, however, denied its involvement in the killings.

In the aftermath of the killings, hoodlums have been targeting some key public and private properties setting them ablaze even as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu sues for calm.

Thus, on Wednesday, October 21, the Sultan declared Friday, October 23, a day for special prayer and issued special directives to Imams across the nation.

The monarch requested all Imams to dedicate their sermons to the ongoing crisis in the country, by calming down the strained nerves with their clement preaching for peace as well as their verbal ventilation of the national atmosphere for permanent tranquillity to the benefit of all and sundry.

He urged all Nigerian Muslim congregations to join their Imams in offering the special prayer for the stability of Nigeria in the present time as well as in future.

The Sultan also encouraged other Nigerian Muslims who are residing abroad to join in the crucial prayer.

He also prayed for Nigeria saying that he beseeched Allah never to allow the bountiful blessings with which He (Allah) gloriously endow Nigeria to end up in a regrettable history.

The monarch also appealed to the Nigerian government to sincerely consider a quick implementation of the demands of the protesting youths which it has accepted.

He cautioned Nigerian Muslim youths against joining evil gangs of violence as efforts to restore peace continue.
