Months after President Donald Trump’s Twitter account was banned during the United States (US)’s presidential election, Chief Executive Officer of the site, Jack Dorsey, has explained why the action was taken.
For clarity, Dorsey set the record straight by saying that he is not particularly proud of making that crucial decision at the time, nor does he feel any sense of joy knowing the circumstances that surrounded the development.
Dorsey said that ban came after several warnings to the outgoing US leader and was eventually enacted in keeping with the initial promise to promote public safety through reliable and verifiable information.
The Twitter boss pointed out that then just as it is currently, “Offline harm as a result of online speech is demonstrably real,” implying that fake news has a tendency to incite public unrest in any given nation.
He went on to say that although Trump has the freedom of speech, this liberty can be used negatively, hence Twitter’s timely action.

Dorsey noted that persons who do not agree with the site’s rules have the option of voicing their views on other social media platforms.

Meanwhile, YouTube issued a strike on Trump’s channel that had a following of over 2.5 million people.
YouTube said Trump’s channel violated its content policies after it uploaded a video with the potential of inciting people to violence.

As a result of the policy infringement, the platform said it had suspended the account’s ability to upload new videos for at least seven days after which it may consider restoring the account or sustain the chokehold.
