The federal election campaign is set to start today, as Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau formally asks Gov. Gen. Julie Payette to dissolve Parliament. Canada’s 43rd general election will take place on Oct. 21. Until then, we at Front Burner will be convening a weekly election panel with CBC’s Power and Politics host Vassy Kapelos and a rotating third guest. Today, Jayme and Vassy are joined by CBC poll analyst and host of The Pollcast, Éric Grenier. They are talking about what paths the major parties need to follow in order to form government — and what might hold them back.


Beginning at 9 a.m. ET, The National‘s Rosemary Barton will host special coverage live from Rideau Hall. It will be on CBC News Network and CBC TV, and streamed on cbcnews.ca, the CBC News app for iOS and Android, and on CBC Gem. On CBC Radio One, Susan Bonner and Chris Hall will have live coverage of the election campaign kickoff starting at 10 a.m. ET.
