Tesco has unveiled a new Clubcard subscription service that will give shoppers the chance to redeem extra rewards across food, clothing and technology.

The grocer announced the service on Wednesday, while revealing a shake up of its UK stores  – including 150 new openings.

New and existing Tesco Clubcard customers will be able to subscribe to the new Clubcard Plus for £7.99 – unlocking benefits such as 10% off two big shops in-store and 10% off selected Tesco brands in-store.

Brands will include F&F, Fred & Flo, Go Cook, Tesco Pet, Carousel and Fox & Ivy.

Customers will also get double data from Tesco Mobile – while Tesco Bank credit card users will benefit from no foreign exchange fees abroad.

To access the card, you’ll have to download the app on your smartphone – however, Tesco has said it won’t be live until later this year.

Alessandra Bellini, at Tesco, said: “New Clubcard Plus is a breakthrough innovation giving customers even more ways to get the best value while shopping at Tesco, for their everyday essentials, weekly shops, Mobile and Banking”.

First launched in 1995, Tesco relaunched Clubcard in 2018, introducing contactless loyalty cards in stores.

As part of its Centenary celebrations, this year it introduced Clubcard Prices – whereby Clubcard holders can access lower prices when they scan their card at the till.

Nectar is also changing

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s is also planning a re-launch of its Nectar card in an effort to make it more ‘digital’.

The grocer, which first announced it was trialling an overhaul in Wales and the Isle of Wight earlier this year, said it is testing out a new scheme that will be rolled out nationally in due course.

Under the scheme, customers will be sent a range of points-boosting offers based on their shopping habits, such as 20 extra points on branded bread, which they’ll then be able to collect when they make the purchase.

You then have to use them within a certain period – which will likely be a week or two.

The trial is now live – you can sign up via the New Nectar website or by downloading the New Nectar app (for  iOS or Android).

You’ll need your Nectar details if you’re already a Nectar cardholder.

A Nectar spokesperson told Mirror Money: “We’re fully committed to getting the scheme right for our customers, who we have listened to throughout the trial to make sure any changes we roll out nationally in the future reward our customers in the best possible way.”
