An 18-year-old became London‘s 63rd murder victim of the year after being stabbed to death last night.

Yusuf Mohamed died in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, after putting his arms up to show the attackers he wasn’t armed, the Evening Standard reports.

He stumbled into a nearby 24-hour shop, where staff tried to help him. His killers chased after him and reportedly stabbed him again as he tried to run to the basement.

A Somalian man said outside Intercontinental Foods supermarket this afternoon he knew of Yusuf as his wife was friends with Yusuf’s mother.

the 18-year-old stumbled into this shop, where he tried to flee to the basement before the attackers followed him and stabbed him again

The man said: ‘He had 9 GCSE’s, he was a good kid. His mum had sent him out to buy milk. He only lives a few minutes from here and that’s what he was doing.

‘The boy that stabbed him was about 15-years-old. He was stabbed outside and he ran into the shop to the back where there are stairs to the basement to get away, and the 15-year-old ran after him and stabbed him again. It’s shocking. His mum collapsed when she heard.’

The teenager was stabbed outside this shop in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, and police are pictured investigating at the scene this morning

He said the knife man was black but not Somalian and from a different community. He said: ‘It could be a case of mistaken identity. I don’t know if they know each other.’

Officers, paramedics and the London Air Ambulance tried to save the man after being called at 9.20pm.

But they pronounced him dead at the scene and a stop and search order is now in place in Shepherd’s Bush and Notting Hill as police continue to investigate.

A murder investigation has been launched and police are working to track down those involved in the incident.

Detective Inspector Luke Wyllie, from Hammersmith and Fulham, said: ‘A young man’s life has been tragically cut short.

‘Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this very difficult time. We are doing everything we can to apprehend those involved.

The Section 60 order is in place in Shepherd’s Bush and Notting Hill until Thursday afternoon.

Police are in the process of informing the teenager’s next of kin and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
