Taking steps to speed up AFT’s delivery of justice: Rajnath Singh

NEW DELHI: The government is taking steps to further empower the

armed forces tribunal



) and make it more responsive, defence minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday, while stressing the need for timely delivery of justice to military personnel, veterans and their families.

The minister called for striking the requisite balance between ‘justice delayed is justice denied’ and ‘justice hurried is justice buried’ towards lessening the burden of pendency in the country’s judicial system in general and the AFT in particular.

The government is committed and striving to make the AFT more responsive to the purposes for which it was established. “Armed forces tribunals have played a vital role in fulfilling legitimate aspirations of serving soldiers and ex-servicemen,” Singh said, at a seminar on improving the functioning of the AFT.

said the government is tapping technology to reduce pendency in courts, in the backdrop of 4.83 crore cases pending cases in different courts in the country. The law ministry is willing to offer any help to the AFT in quick delivery of justice, he added.
