Streaming wars a game changer for Canadian content production: Down to Business podcast

The streaming wars are officially here.

Industry titans Apple and Disney have launched their streaming services in Canada, with AppleTV+ joining the mix on Nov. 1 for $5.99 per month and Disney+ entering the arena on Nov. 12 for $8.99 monthly.

Canadian consumers now have more competitors than ever to choose from, including Canadian services like Bell’s Crave and CBC’s Gem or major U.S. players like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Streaming has shaken traditional TV business models as major online providers spend big on content to attract eyeballs.

This week on Down to Business, host Emily Jackson discusses how the streaming wars have affected Canada’s TV production industry with Andrew Barnsley, the chief executive officer of Project 10, a production company based out of Toronto and LA. He’s the executive producer for Emmy-nominated Schitt’s Creek and for Jann, a series starring Jann Arden.
