Mohamed Abarhoun, a former Moroccan international, has died from stomach cancer at the age of 31.

He was diagnosed in February while playing for Turkish Super League side Caykur Rizespor.

Abarhoun had a seven-year spell with Moroccan side Moghreb Tetouan, winning two league titles in the process.

He joined Portuguese side Moreirense in the Premiera Liga and made move to Rizespor in 2019.

He was part of the squad that helped his nation qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London and made two appearances in the tournament.

At senior level, he played in the 2014 CHAN tournament in South Africa designed for players plying their trade on the domestic scene.

Rizespor released a statement:

“We have learned with sadness the news of the death of our former football player Mohamed Abarhoun, who has been receiving treatment for a while.

“We wish Allah’s mercy to Mohamed Abarhoun, who passed away, and our condolences to his family, relatives and community.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that South African football family has been thrown into mourning following the death of Mamelodi Sundowns player Anele Ngcongca.

The 33-year-old defender was said to have died in a ghastly vehicle accident on Monday, November 23.

He was on the verge of joining Amazulu FC on a season-long loan deal with an option of joining them on a permanent basis if he impressed in his first year.

The forward who was popularly known as ‘Eiye’ was training with Gateway FC of Abeokuta with the hopes of signing for them before he slumped on Sunday evening, November 15.

Usein was said to have been resuscitated on the pitch by medical men who rushed into action after he slumped.
