Jamaica’s record goalscorer and former Sheffield United star Luton Shelton has passed away at the age of 35, according to a statement by the club.

It was gathered that the former striker had battled Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis for some time but he, sadly, lost the fight.

He spent a season at Bramall Lane between 2007 and 2008 and left the club with remarkable contributions as he remains a cult hero there.

Shelton will be remembered for his debut display against Premier League giants Manchester United having joined Sheffield from Swedish side Helsingborgs.

And Jamaican reports claim Shelton, who bagged 35 goals in 75 appearances for the Reggae Boyz, passed away at his home.

Sheffield United have since tweeted:

“The condolences of all at the Blades are with Luton’s family at this difficult time.”

This is coming less than two weeks that football fraternities in France was thrown into deep mourning following the untimely death of former Bastia winger Christopher Maboulou who passed away after suffering heart attack.

Maboulou who played 29 games for Bastia scoring three goals in the topflight was reported to be having a kick-about before he suffered the attack.

The 30-year-old was engaged in a friendly game before he collapsed on the pitch and was rushed to the hospital.

The report added that efforts to revive him in the hospital were all futile as the Frenchman was later confirmed dead.

Maboulou previously took an enforced two-year break from football when doctors diagnosed cardiac problems in 2011 and had to stay home resting.

Before his shocking death, Christopher Maboulou also featured for Chateauroux, Nancy, Evian and Greeks PAS Giannina.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Mohamed Atwi died at the age of 32 after he was hit by stray bullet into his head on August 21 while walking in southern Beirut, Lebanon.

The fatal incident occurred during the funeral of a firefighter killed in the Beirut port explosion.

It was gathered that firing automatic gunshots into the air at funerals and weddings is a common practice in the Middle East, however it could result into fatalities.

And Atwi became a victim of that tradition while he was strolling when bullet hit him in the head and then lodged into his skull.
