RIVERS State Governor Nyesom Wike has approved the reopening of public and private nursery and primary schools with effect from Nov. 23.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Chidi Adiele, announced the reopening of the schools in a statement in Port Harcourt.
“This is to inform the public that Gov. Wike has approved the reopening of all public and private nursery and primary schools in the state with effect from Monday, Nov. 23.
“The reopening is for the first term 2020/2021 academic session, in line with the school calendar published by the ministry in August 2020.
He said the schools had been closed since March due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the state.

The Ondo State government on Tuesday directed schools to activate monitoring teams as a way of preventing the second wave of COVID 19 pandemic.
Chairman, state Inter-ministerial Committee on Coronavirus Prof. Adesegun Fatusi gave the directive yesterday while leading members of the committee on inspection and sensitisation visits to some primary and secondary schools in Ondo town.
According to him, pandemic has entered its second wave in some countries across the globe, adding that efforts must, therefore, be made to curtail its further spread in the state.
