Report: Balotelli signed for Brescia

Mario Balotelli signed the contract with Brescia last night, claim reports, but Massimo Cellino won’t announce it due to superstition.

La Gazzetta dello Sport maintain the paperwork was already signed at 23.45 local time on Friday evening.

It was done that late to ensure it did not include the date August 17, which is also why the news won’t be announced today.

President Cellino, formerly of Cagliari and Leeds United, is famously superstitious to the degree that he wouldn’t have a Number 17 jersey in his squad or a Number 17 seat in the stadium.

Balotelli decided to turn down Flamengo and focus on a return to his hometown club Brescia, as he was a free agent after his Olympique Marseille contract expired.

It’s believed to be a basic salary of €1.5m, but that could be doubled using various add-ons and bonuses, including for goals scored, appearances and Italy call-ups.

The Gazzetta report suggests there is an automatic renewal if Brescia avoid relegation at the end of this season.
