‘Reckless driver’ arraigned for ‘damaging’ three vehicles

A car salesman on Monday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly damaging three vehicles worth N3.7 million.

The defendant, Saviour Matthew, 25, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and theft.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 20 at 4pm at Ikota on Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.

He said that Matthew recklessly drove a Mercedes Benz E350  and damaged his employer’s unregistered Tundra Sport Utility Vehicle and Infinity QX56 jeep, both valued N3.7 million.

“The defendant got into a Mercedes Benz he was given the key to wash, knowing that he could not drive, drove the vehicle and bashed two other vehicles. The Magistrate, Mr T.A. Anjorin-Ajose, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until April 4 for mention.
