Dolly Parton has said no to a statue in her honour. The legendary US singer took to social media recently to share a statement where she addressed the Tennessee legislature.
The state legislature was considering a bill to erect a statue of the music icon on the Capitol grounds. The star declined the offer due to the ongoing pandemic.
In a statement she posted on Twitter on Thursday, February 18, Dolly said:
“I am honoured and humbled by their intention but I have asked the leaders of the state legislature to remove the bill from any and all consideration. Given all that is going on in the world, I don’t think putting me on a pedestal is appropriate at this time.”

The I Will Always Love You hitmaker shared that she hopes the Tennessee government would consider erecting the statue several years from now or when she’s gone.
Tweeps have shared mixed reactions to Dolly’s statement. Check out some of their comments below:
“Every confederate monument should be dynamited and then replaced with Dolly statues, I’ve been saying this for years.”
“One more reason to LOVE Dolly Parton.”
“The timing may not be right but the idea is justified because of all the philanthropy work that you’ve done. And what speaks to your character is that you’ve never bragged about it and you put the focus on the work. That’s why you’re an American treasure.”
“Dolly Parton is a woman that stopped waiting for any man to lead by example!”
“Your heart full of love and caring has made me cry. Or maybe it’s that there is too little of this love in the world that’s actually bringing tears to my eyes. #BeADolly and spread the love.”
