Prince Charles will not be around to welcome Prince Harry when he returns to the UK next week, a royal source has revealed.

  • Prince Charles and Prince Harry will not reunite during the Duke of Sussex’s upcoming UK trip, a source has revealed.
  • Prince Harry is due to fly back to London this week to join Prince William for the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana.
  • In other royal news, Prince Harry is giving his children the California upbringing Princess Diana would have wanted, says former butler Paul Burrell.

The Duke of Sussex is expected to touch down in London this week to attend a statue unveiling of the late Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday—but he won’t be seeing his father at any point of the trip. Prince Charles will reportedly be on route to Scotland just as his youngest son arrives in the UK, and is unlikely to make it back in time for a reunion.

“Charles will leave the boys to it,” a source told the Sun. “Harry will need to quarantine for at least five days when he lands in England, most likely at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. Charles has made it quite clear he will not be around beyond that because he is going to Scotland. There is no planned meeting between the three of them.”

Tensions between Charles and the Duke of Sussex are said to be extremely high, with the Prince of Wales rumored to be angry at Harry for his recent claims about the British royals.

The Duke has launched numerous scathing accusations against the thousand-year-old institution since he and Meghan Markle announced their decision to “step back” as senior members of the Royal Family in January 2020, including allegations of racism in Buckingham Palace. While reports that the father-son duo is in “regular contact” may be a promising sign that Prince Harry and Prince Charles are healing their rift, the news that they won’t be catching up during the Duke’s homecoming has cast fresh doubts over the stability of their relationship.

While he may not be seeing his dad, the royal ex-pat won’t be alone for the solemn occasion. The Duke will reconvene with his older brother, the Duke of Cambridge, to attend their mother’s memorial service at Kensington Palace on 1 July. Always the professionals, it’s predicted that Prince William and Prince Harry will “put on a good show” at Diana’s tribute and park any of their differences to the side out of respect for the late princess.

And unlike at Prince Philip’s funeral in April, which marked the first face-to-face reunion between the brothers since Harry’s US emigration, it looks like there won’t be many Royal Family members to lean on during the event. The significant reason Kate Middleton might not attend Princess Diana’s statue unveiling alongside Prince William has already been revealed, with royal expert Camilla Tominey predicting the siblings could attend “solo” to focus on remembering their mother together. After much speculation about whether or not Meghan Markle would travel to the UK to support Prince Harry, it has now been confirmed that the postpartum Duchess of Sussex will not be making the journey.
