From Zumba dancing to trampolining during drugs busts, officers have been accused of taking cheeky liberties with precious police time.

This time it looks like they really have.

Despite police bosses warning of growing pressures on the front line, there was clearly manpower to spare when these two uniformed officers posed with scantily-clad pop act the Cheeky Girls.

They posted a picture on social media carrying out a mock arrest on singers Monica and Gabriela Irimia.

A post on Twitter said the officers were encouraged to get on stage at a bar where the act were performing.

Police said: ‘Monica & Gabriela were heard to shout “Hey cheeky boys!!” at passing Police officers who promptly took to the stage & got the situation under control much to the delight of the crowd.’

One user replied to the post: ‘Crimes against singing?!’

Bosses defended the officers pictured with the Romanian-born twins, 36, best known for their 2002 hit Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum).

Inspector Murray King said after the photo stunt, which took place in Aberdeen, that officers were ‘interacting with members of their local communities’ in order to ‘build relationships and establish bonds of trust’.

‘Social media posts like these are shared to demonstrate how approachable our officers are, and the steps we take to engage with the people we work to keep safe,’ he added.

But one police source told the Mail: ‘The problem is that if you’ve had a bad experience – like calling the police and not being able to get through, or being told they’re too busy – and then you see this, you might be annoyed about it. Is it the best use of police resources?’

Forces have repeatedly complained of overstretched forces and government underfunding as violent crime soars across the country.

But officers have been pictured on social media dressing up as penguins, hooking plastic ducks and making cuddly toys as they attempt to show their fun side to promote community policing.

In April, a policeman in Coventry was caught on camera doing backflips on a trampoline during a drugs raid.

And six officers stretched out the long arms of the law when they took part in a Zumba dancing session in front of crowds at a carnival in Prestatyn, North Wales, last summer.
