However, four officers died as a result of the exchange of gunfire. The police also said an officer is missing.

The statement read in part:

“Contrary to unconfirmed reports in some sections of the media stating that eighteen (18) officers were kidnapped, only sixteen (16) officers were attacked in the ambush.

“The officers successfully repelled the attack accordingly and neutralized the bandits in their tens while many of the bandits scampered into the bush with gunshot injuries.

“Regrettably, four (4) of the Officers paid the supreme price during the exchange of gun fire between the Police and the bandits while an officer is still missing.

“However, the remaining eleven (11) officers led by their Unit Commander, successfully recovered the bodies and firearms of their fallen colleagues while concerted efforts are being intensified to rescue the officer still missing.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reports that former Kaduna state senator, Shehu Sani lamented the killing of 18 policemen in Katsina. He called the incident tragic and unfortunate.

He went further to say that despite the multiple operations launched against them, bandits continue to carry out their hideous and nefarious activities in the country.

Sani consequently wondered that if the police in Nigeria are not safe, then who else is safe.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that accolades have been pouring in for Mr. Danmallam Mohammed on his recent promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
