Police are investigating a professional dog-sitter after five pets disappeared on her watch.

Louise Lawford claimed the dogs run away during a walk in Hopwas Woods near Tamworth on Sunday after they were scared by a gunshot.

But the distraught owners reported their animals as stolen or missing, prompting West Midlands Police to launch a probe.

The missing dogs are Charlie, a half-blind pug; Pablo, an eight-year-old pug; Maggie, a six-year-old Jack Russell; Ralph, a five-year-old Jack Russell; and a 18-month-old French Bulldog called Brindle Jack.

Officers are appealing for information, while Ms Lawford is refusing to answer questions about their welfare, reported The Sun.

Becky Parsons, 39, who owns Pablo and Maggie, said: ‘This is my worst nightmare.

‘I lost my dad, nan, granddad and partner in a short space of time and Maggie and Pablo are my comfort.’

April Lock, 28, from Sutton Coldfield, who owns Charlie and Ralph, said she has texted Ms 50 times but has heard nothing back.
