The Police in Kano arrested 198 suspected criminals in the state between June 27 and July 20.

Commissioner of Police, Samaila Dikko, made this known at a press conference on Thursday.

The police chief said 42 of the suspects were nabbed for armed robbery, nine for kidnapping, 16 fraudsters and 27 for cars and tricycles theft.

Other suspects included 12 for drug dealing, and 92 thugs popularly called “Yan daba”.

Dikko revealed they were caught in various parts during joint operations with other security agencies.

The commissioner said the raid was part of a policing initiative to clear criminal hideouts. Some of the suspects had been charged to court.

“Intelligence-led and visibility policing as well as rapid response to distress calls also contributed immensely in recording the successes”, he noted.

The CP added that five victims of human trafficking were rescued by the police during the period under review.

Items recovered include 25 rifles including three AK-47, 12 cars, seven tricycles, three motorcycles and 122 knives.

Others are 269 parcels of cannabis sativa, 134 mobile phones, four laptops, 16 Plasma TV and psychotropic substances, among others.
