Flu season came early this year, and doctors anticipate it will get worse. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting flu-related deaths this season. Upstate doctors said they are already treating flu patients. Health officials urge everyone to protect themselves against the virus by getting a flu shot. “It takes a good two weeks to build an immune response to it, so the sooner the better. If you’re going to be traveling in the next couple weeks, go ahead and get it done,” said Taylor McKeowen, a nurse practitioner.Most pharmacies are offering free flu shots. Target, CVS and Publix are all offering store gift cards and/ or coupons along with a flu shot.
