House Speaker Nancy Pelosi paid tribute to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Sunday, calling her a “brilliant brain on the court” in an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”
Pelosi, appearing in an interview with ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos, would not rule out launching impeachment proceedings in order to block the Senate from confirming a nominee from President Donald Trump.
“We have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now but the fact is we have a big challenge in our country. This president has threatened to not even accept the results of the election,” Pelosi said. “Our main goal would be to protect the integrity of the election as we protect the people from the coronavirus.”
Pelosi, who ordered flags to half-staff on Friday evening in honor of Ginsburg, urged people to turn out to vote to defend health care and the right to choose. As the country closes in on 200,000 deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic, she said Ginsburg “would want us to move forward to protect the people who are sick.”
“It’s really important for everyone to get out there and vote,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said.
Pressed by Stephanopoulos that she’s “not ruling anything out,” Pelosi said that the Constitution requires Congress “to use every arrow in our quiver.”
“We have a responsibility,” she said. “We take an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States.”
