Thursday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos was supposed to be nothing special. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were going to get back on the right side of the scoreboard with a win against a division rival, the Denver Broncos. But instead, the world came to a crashing halt for the Chiefs and thousands of fantasy football players. Patrick Mahomes went down with an injured knee. The reigning NFL MVP had been dealing with an ankle injury the last few weeks, which made the decision to run a quarterback sneak a questionable one. When the pile cleared, his leg didn’t quite look right. It was clear something was seriously wrong. Twitter Reacts to Patrick Mahomes Injury in Characteristically Irreverent Fashion As could be expected when something like this happens to such a talented player, the Twitter-verse went crazy with all sorts of reactions—and a ton of jokes: Of course, it wasn’t all laughs and giggles from the legions of internet comedians out there. Many expressed concern for the young man who had just suffered what appeared to be a painful injury. Some of his fellow quarterbacks also wished him well and hoped for a speedy recovery. When Will Patrick Mahomes Be Back? The word that quickly made the rounds online Thursday night was that Mahomes had dislocated his kneecap. Medical staff on the field could be seen putting it back in place during the broadcast. He was able to make it to the locker room at halftime and met the team there after the game, a 30-6 victory. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, an MRI confirmed that Mahomes had suffered a dislocated kneecap but avoided additional damage. He should return this season following a vaguely-defined “brief absence.” For now, about the only thing that is for sure is this—the Madden Curse has struck again! It is hard not to wonder now if Madden will change his rating again. This article was edited by Josiah Wilmoth.
