Italian authorities have launched an investigation into the failed Luis Suarez move to Juventus in the summer after Barcelona told him to leave Camp Nou.

The Uruguay international was one of the superstars offloaded by the Catalan club after the arrival of Ronald Koeman who replace Quique Setien.

However, the forward seems destined to join the Old Lady until it was discovered that he cheated during his Italian citizenship test.

It was part of the process to pass the country’s citizenship exam to enable the Serie A side to get around the quota of non-EU players.

But the process was flawed as Suarez was alleged to have cheated to pass as reported by the Mirror. And the Prosecutor’s statement on the matter reads:

“It emerged that the contents of the test had been communicated in advance to the player, in order to arrive at a predetermined outcome and examination score to meet the requests that had been made by Juventus, with the aim of achieving a positive image return, both personal and for the University.

“Investigations have also allowed us to understand how, in the first days of September 2020, the management of the Turin club was activated, even at the highest institutional levels, to accelerate recognition of Italian citizenship of Suarez.

“This suggests new hypotheses of crime against persons other than those belonging to the university, still in the process of study.”

Suarez now plays for Spanish League giants Atletico Madrid since his move to Italy was not successful.

But he is not under investigation after Juventus insist sporting director Fabio Paratici had done everything correctly.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Luis Suarez could return to action for Atletico Madrid against Real Valladolid this weekend after he was cleared of COVID-19 earlier this week.

The Uruguay forward has not featured for the club since mid last month after returning from international assignments for his country.

He missed out on their 3-0 triumph over Colombia as well as the 2-0 defeat to five-time world champions Brazil last month.
