Nigerian author Reno Omokri has caused quite a stir on social media after advising men to focus on sending monetary gifts to their parents on their birthdays instead of extending such to their girlfriends.

He said instead of sending a text to parents on their birthdays and sending monetary gifts to girlfriends for the same purpose, the reverse should be the case.

The outspoken author argued that money spent on girlfriends attracts no blessings.

In his words:

“Dear men,

“Never say happy birthday to your parents with a text and to your girlfriend with an alert. It’s an evil recipe. Flip it. Send the text to your girlfriend and the alert to your parents. Money spent on a girlfriend attracts NO BLESSING.”

Nigerians soon flooded the comment section of Omokri’s post to share their thoughts on it.

“Giving attracts blessings generally, whether to the less privileged or to your partner. Giving to your girlfriend isn’t a bad thing. Don’t forget, some ladies also give to their boyfriend. Its a form of support. Everyone at one point or another needs support.”
