An NHS nurse has revealed what goes on in hospitals away from patients’ eyes in an entertaining YouTube interview.

The anonymous nurse, known as Ben, spoke to Irish YouTube star Riyadh K, 28, about his experiences working at a children’s intensive care unit at an unnamed UK hospital.

To keep his identity secret he sat with his back to the camera and had his voice changed.

Speaking candidly in the video, Ben told how staff – including himself – use night shifts as an opportunity to sneak off for sexual encounters.

‘It does happen,’ he said. ‘It’s a night shift, you’re on your break, maybe,’ he said suggestively.

Quizzed on his own experience, Ben continued: ‘Someone had an office down the hall, and it was free,’ before revealing the person in question had been a fellow nurse.

The nurse also described student recruits can be ‘standoffish’, opting to sit on their phones instead of getting stuck in.

‘They’re coming with every year of students,’ Ben said. ‘They’re very standoffish, they sit at the nurses station on their phones, they don’t really engage, they don’t pay attention, they’re not very proactive in their learning. Straight away, alarm bells.’

Ben explained they’re known as ‘too posh too wash’ because of their reluctance to get their hands dirty.

Nurse Ben also opened up about the heart-wrenching side of his job, including how they cope with parents whose child is dying.

Speaking candidly in the video, Ben told Irish YouTube star Riyadh K, 28, pictured, how staff – including himself – use night shifts as an opportunity to sneak off for sexual encounters

‘A lot of the children that pass away, it’s like a planned thing,’ Ben said.

‘So it will be that we’ve reached the end of what we can do, and it’s now more letting them slip away peacefully.

‘The way that we also resuscitate children, so when they are super, super sick, we tend to have parents watch so they can see if it doesn’t go well, they have seen for themselves that we did absolutely everything that we could.’

He added that some parents have said it made their grieving process a bit easier, knowing that the nurses didn’t give up on their child.

‘Ben’ – as the nurse was called in the video – told Riyadh that ‘posh’ nurses are often the new student recruits and are ‘standoffish,’ opting to sit on their phones instead of getting stuck in

He also said that ‘breaking’ in front of the parents after a child’s death isn’t necessarily a bad thing because ‘it shows that your human,’ and that some parents even ask for the nurses to stay with them as their child is taken to the mortuary.

Ben told him that has had to work for 17 hours straight and nurses even encourage the parents of a dying child to watch the resuscitation process so they know that everything was done to try and keep them alive.

Riyadh’s video has been viewed well over 10,000 times since it was uploaded yesterday and has been flooded with positive comments.
