Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola has stated that she will not advise her son to play for Nigeria to due to growing security challenges in the country.

Despite her son’s eligibility to star for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Foluke Daramola whose son Oluwapelumi Salako is already an aspiring footballer might not play for the national team according to the actress.

The Nollywood star expresses fear of being kidnapped as she cited the fate of former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi whose father was once kidnapped.

Daramola made this known during an interactive session on The PUNCH’s online sports talk show, Stars Talk Football.

Oluwapelumi Salako, 13, is already aspiring to become a footballer but his dream of one day representing Nigeria may not be actualized.

She said:

“The moment a child comes to play in Nigeria, a lot of things are at stake. Even as a mother, the moment he starts playing in leagues abroad, then the parents may become a target of kidnap.

“I can vividly remember that they kidnapped a player Mikel Obi’s father. So, because of the insecurity in the country, I will definitely say no.

“If he says he wants to play for Nigeria, I will advise him to properly think about it.”
