Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel appears to have unfinished business in England after eyeing a return to the European country.

The 33-year-old spent over a decade at Chelsea, winning virtually all the silverware available including the Champions League and Europa League titles.

Before joining the Super Eagles to 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where they won bronze at the end of the championship, he spent six months at Middlesbrough and became the fans’ delight.

His performances at last year’s AFCON competition helped him secure a two year deal with Turkish giants Trabzonspor.

But he decided to walk away from his contract with the club in March after running into a problem with their FA.

Mikel called the football body out for their refusal to suspend football activities in the phase of deadly coronavirus.

When asked if he could return to England, the former Eagles captain told BBC Sport Africa: “Yes, there are interested clubs and England is a strong possibility and why not.

We are currently in talks with clubs and there is absolutely no hurry. I can only wait to see what happens.”

While he confirmed that a few English clubs are interested in signing him, Mikel simply ignored links about him joining newly West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City.

The defensive midfielder made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea in 11 years but parted ways with them in 2017. He won two league titles, three FA Cups, and other silverware.

Legit.ng earlier reported that John Obi Mikel could be joining Stoke City as latest reports have it that the former Chelsea star has appeared on the radar of the Potters.

Reports have it that Stoke boss Michael O’Neil is desperately in search of a ball-holding midfielder to help bolster the team’s midfield when the new season restarts.

Brila.net citing StokeonTrentlive reported that Stoke boss Michael O’Neill has been told to bring in Mikel who has also been linked with Brazilian side Botafogo.
