1.The Nigerian government has announced a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case in Lagos State, Nigeria. The Federal Ministry of Health confirmed the positive test of the virus in Nigeria, Friday morning, in a statement signed by Dr Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health. The case, recorded on Thursday, 27th of February 2020, is the first to be reported in Nigeria since the outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The minister’s statement disclosed that the case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and returned from Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria, on the 25th of February 2020.

2. The hope of the opposition party to overturn the election of the incumbent Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello through the court of law suffered a major setback on Thursday as a Lokoja High Court has faulted the PDP Governorship Primaries held on 3rd September 2019. Justice John Olorunfemi while looking at the evidence brought before him by Alhaji Abubakar Idris challenging the victory of Engr Wada ruled that the PDP primary was hasty and inconclusive.

3. Iranian Vice President, Masoumeh Ebtekar has tested positive to the deadly coronavirus. State news in Tehran reported Thursday that the development has added to mounting fears over the virus spread. Ebtekhar, also President Hassan Rouhani’s adviser on family and women’s matters, has been placed under quarantine.

4. The ousted governor-elect of Bayelsa State, David Lyon, has finally accepted the final ruling of Nigeria’s highest court, Supreme Court that nullified his victory at the November 16th, 2019 governorship election in the State. In a statement he personally signed and made available to reporters on Thursday, Lyon said though the decision of the Supreme Court dashed the hope of the people of the state, he accepted it in the interest of peace and the development of the State.

5. A High Court sitting in Lokoja, has declared the removal of Elder Simon Achuba, a former Deputy Governor by the Kogi State House of Assembly as null and void, adding that the subsequent nomination of Chief Edward Onoja did not follow due process. Delivering Judgement on the matter brought before the court by Elder Simon Achuba on Thursday, Justice John Olorunfemi of the Lokoja High Court 4 declared the removal of the former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba from office by the Assembly as a violation of the Constitution.

6. A Former Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has appealed the ruling of a Lagos High Court which struck his suit against the State House of Assembly. The House is probing Ambode over the procurement of 820 buses during his tenure. In his notice of appeal filed by his counsel, Tayo Oyetibo, SAN, before the Lagos division of the Court of Appeal, Ambode prayed the appellate court to return the case to the High Court. He is asking the Chief Judge to reassign his suit to another judge of the High Court for trial.

7. Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has claimed that Boko Haram is targeting Christians, in a bid to cause a religious war. Mohammed stated this on Thursday, while addressing a press conference in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The Minister admitted that although the insurgents are still attacking Muslims, they now “have a deliberate policy of attacking Christians”.

8. Nigerian popular musician, Iyanya Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya on Thursday was granted bail in the sum of N20 million by an Igbosere High Court in Lagos over alleged car theft. Iyanya, who rose to fame after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa is facing a count charge of stealing. The SFU alleged that Iyanya dishonestly converted to his personal use or of another person, a black Toyota Land Cruiser-

9. The remains of the Remo Stars footballer, Kazeem Tiyamiyu, who was allegedly killed after his arrest by a police officer from the Zonal Intervention Squad, have been interred amid tears and emotions. Tiyamiyu, who is fondly addressed as Kaka, was buried at Ajaka in Sagamu. Kaka was buried on Thursday according to Islamic rites.

10. Rebecca Sharibu, mother of the kidnapped Dapchi schoolgirl kept away by Boko Haram, Leah Sharibu, has stormed the United Kingdom to meet Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister on her daughter’s case. Rebecca spoke with BBC Hausa Service in London, saying that President Muhammadu Buhari was not serious about issues concerning the release of her daughter. The grieving mother told the medium that President Buhari did not contact her family until seven months after the abduction of their daughter, saying the government was not serious.
