Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs minister, weekend, acknowledged that the country was passing through a tough phase.

He, however, said with a collaborative effort of all, including the younger generation, the challenges would be surmounted.

Onyeama spoke at his country home in Eke, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State where he made donations of learning materials, including chairs, desks and books, to five primary schools in the community.

He said, “things are tough in Nigeria at the moment; Nigeria not rich as it ought to be, so we are going to rely on even you, the younger generation.

“China was not so rich before, it once had places like Eke here, but they are now one of the richest countries in the world because they were working hard.

“Today, all the best experts be it in technology and what have you, China is topmost. So, we believe that investment on the young generation is the way to go.

“This is just the beginning; I believe that education is the core, it is the most important asset of every developing country. President Buhari has said that the young generation is our valuable asset and that is why we are contributing as much as we can to make sure that you have the best.

“We will continue to do our best to ensure that we make education conducive and easier for you.”

On the issue of issecurity which was now affecting even educational institutions, the Minister said “we are doing what we can, one thing at a time, the most important thing is that we recognize the importance of education, the importance of empowering our youths.

“We have to keep them safe; security is a challenge for the whole country and the government is tackling it the best it can. Everybody’s effort is needed, just do what you can and where you can.

“We have a permanent programme for the youths and schools, this is just the foundation, it will spread to the 17 LGs in the State,” he assured.

Earlier in a remark, leader of the HuaweI delegation at the event, Mr. Kelvin Yang said they were partnering with stakeholders to provide technology innovation, knowledge transfer, and carry out corporate social responsibility.

“We are committed to cultivating local talents. We believe that if we can secure quality education for our youths, a bright future is secure for Nigeria. So far, Huawel has partnered with universities, colleges and schools across Nigeria to help them to improve their study environment, and enhance knowledge transfer with latest ICT skills,” he noted.
