Nigeria: Man remanded in prison for alleged FRSC job scam

A 37 year- old suspect, Tosin Shodipe, has been arraigned before Ejigbo magistrate court for allegedly scamming people under the pretext of securing them Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) jobs.

The suspect was arrested by police operatives at a popular hotel in Ajao Estate, Isolo where the syndicate lodged to defraud members of the public under the false pretence of securing jobs for them.

Their fraud activity was exposed after one of the victims, Florence Ikhide, was invited to the hotel and lured to pay N500,000 as she was promised FRSC job for her sister, Obehi Purity Ikhide.

According to the victim, the syndicate convinced her that they had contacted the FRSC Headquarters to engage those who wanted to be employed as workers but on condition of paying the said amount, which she paid but later found out to be a scam.

The alleged fraud was reported to the Police and one of the members of the syndicate, Shodipe, was eventually arrested and detained at Ajao Police Division for interrogation.

It was gathered that during investigation, the Police discovered that Shodipe and his gang had no such connection with the authorities of FRSC.

Having been found culpable, the suspect was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.

He pleaded not guilty, the prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Teslim Shomade, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he would perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till March 4, 2020.
