Lagos State government will host a boat cruise to take fun seekers to landmark places and historical sites in the state to mark Nigeria’s 60 Independence anniversary.

The state is organising the funfair through its Ferry Services (LAGFERRY).

LAGFERRY Managing Director Abdulbaq Ladi Balogun announced this and other packages at a media briefing he addressed on Monday at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre at the state secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.

According to Balogun the boat cruise and tour are slated for October 3 and October 1 and will take people to landmark places and historical sites in Lagos especially Badagry and Epe.

He said: “The state government, in appreciating the commuting public for embracing water transportation as a reliable alternative means of decongesting the road, has decided, in celebration of Nigeria 60th Independence, to reduce prices on all boat trips from all routes within the state by 40 per cent from September 30 to October 2, while on board passengers will stand a chance to win numerous prizes and tickets to the boat cruise via raffle draws.

“While on October 3, our 180 tonne MV Adimu Orisa will host Lagosians as we will be having a boat cruise that will take off from Falomo in Ikoyi, revelers will have the opportunity to savour the ambience of the Lagos coastline.

Also, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and a former governorship candidate in Imo State, Uche Nwosu, has said that despite the current socio-economic challenges, there is something to cheer about Nigeria at 60.

In a congratulatory message to President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary on Thursday, Nwosu noted that Nigeria has continued to evolve over the years towards becoming the country of “our collective dream,” despite daunting challenges.

He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the nation’s Diamond Anniversary to strengthen the unity of the country.

“Remaining together after 60 years of Independence shows that we have a greater future. We still believe in President Buhari’s vision to unify the country and bring everyone together. Staying together with all the tribal and religious differences after 60 years shows how great we are as a nation,” Nwosu said.
