Nicolato: 'Kean is still just a kid'

Italy U21 Coach Paolo Nicolato prepares for Armenia and warns Moise Kean is immature. “On an emotional level, he’s still a kid.”

The Azzurrini won their first qualifier for the 2021 European Championships, then drew 0-0 away to the Republic of Ireland, so the pressure is on for tomorrow’s trip to Armenia.

“Armenia are a team in good shape, we know already that it’ll be difficult and we must be ready to resolve those issues,” said Nicolato in his Press conference.

“It takes time to do well and let’s not forget we are at the very start of a two-year process with a whole new squad. We must be patient and calm, taking every game as it comes.

“We want to put in a good performance and are continuing to build on the 4-3-3 foundations.”

Everton striker Kean won’t be taking part, as he is suspended following a red card against Ireland for reacting to provocation.

“I see a lad who wants to do well, but perhaps has not yet reached the maturity and balance that he needs. It’s the way you react to errors that makes the difference.

“On an emotional level, Moise is effectively still a kid just peeking into the world of adults, without yet quite knowing how to interact with them.”

Yet 19-year-old Kean plays in the Premier League and has already scored for the senior Italy squad.
