NEW DELHI: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday arrested 2019 Pulwama attack accused Bilal Ahmed Kuchey who had not only arranged shelter for Jaish-e Mohammad terrorists behind the strike but also provided the mobile phone used to record video clip of fidayeen bomber Adil Ahmed Dar prior to the attack.
Kuchey, a resident of Hajibal, Kakapora in Pulwama, is the seventh person to be arrested in the case relating to the Pulwama car bomb attack dated February 14, 2019 in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. Days later, India retaliated by carrying out airstrikes on Jaish e Mohammad facilities in Balakot deep inside Pakistan.
Kuchey, who runs a sawmill in Pulwama, is a terror associate who harboured and extended logistic support to the JeM terrorists involved in Pulwama attack, said NIA. The main perpetrators in the Pulwama attack case — Pakistani IED maker Muhammad Umer Farooq, suicide bomber Adil, local Jaish terrorist Sameer Ahmed Dar and another Pakistan terrorist Kamran — stayed in his house and he further introduced them to other overground workers who provided safe houses during their stay and planning of the attack.
Kuchey provided the JeM terrorists with high-end mobile phones which were used by them to communicate with the Pakistan-based JeM leadership as well as among themselves for giving final touches to planning and execution of the attack. Further, the mobile phone provided by him was also used for recording the video clip of Adil, which went viral on social media after the attack.
In the clip, Dar, surrounded by sophisticated guns and ammunition, could be heard saying that he had joined Jaish fidayeen squad a year ago and that the day had come when the purpose of his joining Jaish would get fulfilled. “By God’s will, when you view this message, I will be enjoying the comforts of paradise,” he could be heard as saying in the clip put out by Jaish.
Kuchey was produced in NIA special court, Jammu on Monday, a day after he was arrested. NIA has got his 10-day custody for interrogation.
NIA has since February this year arrested overground Jaish worker Shakir Bashir Magrey who provided shelter to and drove Adil to the attack site; Tariq Ahmed Shah and Ishan Jan for harbouring the perpetrators; Waiz ul Islam for using his Amazon online shopping account to buy chemicals used to make the IED; Mohd Abbas Rather for sheltering the Jaish terrorists in the run-up to the attack; and Mohd Iqbal Rather for facililtating movement of Pakistani IED maker Umer Farooq to Kashmir after he infiltrated from Pakistan into Jammu in 2018.
