NFL Legend Antonio Brown Continues To Be His Own Worst Enemy

At this point, it is probably something most view as a fact—that one of the greatest wide receivers of this generation, Antonio Brown, has become a train wreck. Millions adored him, and fantasy football players loved him. But with how he’s behaved over the last few months, he has been reduced to nothing more than clickbait. He’s a walking, tweeting reality show minus the television cameras. It has been surreal to watch his fall from grace. But what is even more incredible than his self-induced downward spiral is the fact that he could still have it all. If he were to get out of his own way and start behaving like a rational human being again, he’d get back in the NFL. All he has to do is stay out of trouble, stop acting out, and begin acting like a person teams can trust. Déjà vu Brown was supposed to answer questions for a court-ordered deposition last week regarding a suit brought against him by a former landlord in Florida (where he had a furniture-throwing tantrum). The landlord is suing for damages inflicted on the property by Brown. But Brown is certainly making it hard to proceed. From reports, it sounds like the experience of the deposition was a lot like trying to sit through a position meeting with him. He was 30 minutes late, refused to answer routine questions, was texting throughout the meeting, and was chanting. What he was chanting remains a mystery. The landlord’s lawyers, according to ESPN, have requested the court appoint a special master to supervise the deposition. In court documents, they characterized Brown’s behavior as “tumultuous tirades, defiant rants, use of profane language, and refusal to comport himself in a civilized and grown-up manner.” Sound familiar to anyone? Unphased There has not been a moment where Brown has appeared to reflect on anything he has done or said. So, there is no reason why we should expect anything different after stories about the deposition broke: Umm…okay. The NFL’s Investigation And His Career After appearing to quit football on Twitter following his release from New England, Brown has said that he wants to play again. According to his agent, some teams have expressed interest. But everyone wants to see how the NFL’s investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct pans out first. So, from a logical standpoint, it would make sense for him to move mountains to get the investigation done. According to reports, Brown knows the NFL wants to talk with him but has been in no rush to comply. Since he is not on a team right now, there is little the league can do to compel him. But the league is not going to let it go. If teams are not signing him because of a pending suspension, his lack of cooperation will end his career. But Antonio Brown has made a shade under $71 million during his career and has filed grievances that could net him upwards of $61 million. So, maybe he just doesn’t care anymore.
