Skylar Wallace was in the perfect position.

Wallace, Florida’s redshirt junior shortstop, slid left on a chopping groundball off the bat of UCLA’s Briana Perez. But as a runner from second base breezed by, Wallace’s vision was blocked, resulting in the ball bouncing off her glove and rolling toward the outfield.

The misplay resulted in two UCLA runs rolling in off what later was scored an infield single.

Two batters earlier, Wallace again bobbled a grounder, this time off UCLA pinch-hitter Seneca Curo, scoring a run.

Florida wouldn’t recover.

On Sunday afternoon, the No. 5 Bruins tallied three runs off hits that stayed in the infield, resulting in a 8-0 run-rule victory against the Gators in six innings, eliminating No. 14 Florida from the Women’s College World Series.

After the three-run fourth inning, the Bruins poured more insurance runs on. With the bases loaded, Maya Brady slapped a hard-hit grounder between first and second base, scoring two runs and inflating the lead to six.

A batter later, Savannah Pola hit an extra-base hit into centerfield, scoring two and implementing the run-rule.

Pitcher Holly Azevedo guided the Bruins defensively, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing the Gators just two hits and striking out one.

The No. 5 Bruins will face top-seeded Oklahoma in the semifinals on Monday at 11 a.m. Last season, the Sooners eliminated the Bruins in the loser’s bracket en route to winning the national championship.
