Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, has estimated that the value of what was destroyed after some suspected hoodlums set his house ablaze cannot be less than N50 million, The Punch reports.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Igboho’s old house in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital, was set ablaze by unidentified men in the early hours of Tuesday, January 26.

Igboho who no longer lives in the house said he was briefed about the attack by his younger brothers who live there.

He was quoted to have said:

“The worth of what was destroyed at my house cannot be less than N50 million.”

He said he was told the arsonists fired gunshots before breaking in to set the house on fire. The Yoruba activist said the hoodlums had left by the time he got to the house.

He said firefighters were subsequently called to help put out the fire.

His words:

“When they knew they could fight, fire gunshots, and set a house ablaze, isn’t it where I stay that they are supposed to come?”

The incident happened amid the growing tension generated by Igboho’s quit notice to herdsmen in Igangan, Oyo state, after accusing them of being behind criminal activities in the area.

In its version of the report, Channel TV states that Igboho implied the arson was masterminded by herdsmen, saying he was surprised that some Yoruba people are aiding suspected killer herdsmen.

Meanwhile, the Oyo state police command has also released a statement regarding the burning of Igboho’s house.

The state police spokesperson, Olugbenga Fadeyi, said the command received a report that hoodlums loaded in a bus and taxi set the house ablaze.

Fadeyi also said the police were told that the arsonists shot in the air several times as they put fire to the house which is located at the Soka area of Ibadan.
