A mother has shared horrific pictures of her 11-year-old autistic son lying in a hospital bed after a hit-and-run motorcyclist left him ‘for dead’.

Theo Andrew was cycling near his home in Oldham, Greater Manchester, on Friday last week when he was hit by a suspected stolen motorbike.

He was knocked unconscious and suffered a severely broken left leg, a fractured skull and swelling on the brain as well as cuts and bruises.

The youngster remains at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where doctors are concerned his leg injury could be ‘life-changing’.

Speaking from her son’s hospital bed, his mother, Siobhan Doyle, 31, said her son had swerved to avoid wasps swarming around the bins near his home when he was struck by the motorbike.

She said: ‘I was in my bedroom and I heard this smash. I looked out of the window and could not see my son because he was knocked out behind a car.

‘I just thought it was another d** head whose smashed his bike. Then I heard banging on my door and everyone is screaming “it’s your Theo”.

‘I was shocked. I was being sick and I was screaming.’

Ms Doyle described how she went outside and found her son unconscious although he later came round and told his mother: ‘Where am I? My leg’s snapped in half’.

She added: ‘It’s disgusting, for someone to see a child like that on the floor with two bones sticking out of his leg and then run off.’

The biker had left her child ‘for dead’, said Ms Doyle, adding: ‘Any human with a heart would not do that.’

Ms Doyle described how her son (left), who was due to go into year seven at Spring Brook Upper School, had autism and ADHD which had complicated his treatment while in hospital (Theo’s leg injuries are pictured right)

Witnesses have told police the motorcyclist came off his machine but, despite bleeding from his own injuries, picked up some debris, got back on and rode away.

Police launched a hunt and found the alleged rider in a local hospital. Residents say the area is plagued by rogue bikers.

Theo was conscious and was ‘doing quite well considering’, said Ms Doyle, who had to cancel her infant son Hugo’s first birthday party the day after the hit-and-run.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed officers were investigating a fail-to-stop collision on Higher Lime Road in Oldham on Friday, August 23 which involved a suspected stolen motorbike.

The spokesman confirmed that although no arrest had been made a 19-year-old male would be summonsed to appear in court for failing to stop at the scene of a collision, having no licence and having no insurance.
