Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Montella reveals he had “a kick-about” with new signing Franck Ribery today and could use Federico Chiesa as a False 9.
The veteran signed a two-year contract today, after 12 seasons at Bayern Munich.
“He is an extraordinary player, he’s eager and we believe he can express himself at his levels here,” Montella told Sky Sport Italia after dinner with Ribery and the club directors.
“He had his first training session today, but I was the only other one there, so I put my boots on after many years and had a kick-about.”
Montella was asked if Ribery could make his Serie A debut this weekend against Napoli.
“We’ll see over the next few days how he responds to training and he is very determined, but we should take it easy. He was a little rusty, as was I.”
With Ribery’s arrival and Kevin-Prince Boateng so versatile, there are reports Montella is testing Chiesa as a False 9.
“I thought about Chiesa as a centre-forward, but I’ve not actually tried it yet. He is a very interesting player and in my view needs more room between the lines rather than just being out on the wing.”
