Lionel Messi can begin to discuss his future with another club from January 2020, to avoid leaving Barcelona as a free agent, reports in Spain claim.
The Barca captain decided to see out the remainder of his contract at the Camp Nou but with the way things are going the 33-year-old may need to discuss with Man City in January.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation at Juventus may have played a huge role in Messi’s case because the Portuguese star is in his final two years with the Turin club and he must be sold next year in case he wishes to leave, Dario Gol claim.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain has been linked with the 35-year-old if he chooses to leave Juve next summer.
Kylian Mbappe’s proposed transfer to Real Madrid will be used by PSG to fund Ronaldo’s transfer from the Bianconeri.
On the other hand, Messi is free to negotiate with other clubs from January 1, as long as he does not sign an extension.
City have been the front liners to land the Argentine superstar this summer and there will not be looking back until they land the six-time Ballon d’Or winner at the Etihad.
Juventus have also emerged as another destination for Messi as his best friend Luis Suarez is close to signing for the Italian champions.
The Uruguayan is understood to be negotiating his Italian citizenship and Suarez has agreed personal terms with the Serie A giants.

Meanwhile, Bioreports had earlier reported that Lionel Messi put smiles on the faces of Barcelona fans as he made his first appearance for the club since making a U-turn about leaving this summer.
La Blaugrana defeated Gimnastic de Tarragona by 3-1 and the 33-year-old captained his side and played the first 45 minutes.
Messi was taken off in the second half as Barca emerged comfortable winners over the third-tier side with Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho getting their names on the scoresheet.
