The Duchess of Sussex will not return to work full time until autumn despite her Trooping the Colour appearance, a royal source claimed.

Meghan, 37, is currently on maternity leave following the birth of son Archie in May but took time off to join Prince Harry, 34, and other senior royals at the Buckingham Palace engagement on Saturday.

While some speculated the outing might mark the royal’s return to public duties, a royal source told Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair that the Duchess will remain on maternity leave ‘until the fall’.

However she is expected to follow the lead of her sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, 37, and attend a ‘few engagements’ over the coming months, just as Kate did last summer following the birth of Prince Louis in April last year.

The source said: ‘It was important to her [the Duchess of Sussex] to be at Trooping today out of respect to the Queen.

‘She’s mirroring what the Duchess of Cambridge did on her maternity leave. You’ll probably see her at a few engagements but she won’t be back to work properly until later in the year.’

The Duchess of Sussex was last seen at a photocall at Windsor Castle shortly after Archie’s birth, where she and Harry proudly introduced their son to the world.

While there were reports Meghan might attend Trooping the Colour, which officially marks the Queen’s birthday, her attendance was only confirmed on the day.

Saturday also marked the first appearance of Prince Louis, now 14 months old, at the annual celebration.

The Duchess of Cambridge made a handful of appearances while technically still on maternity leave with her youngest son.

She was first seen just three weeks after Prince Louis’ birth last year when she attended the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on 15 May.
