A lot of people must have heard about St Mark, but not many people are aware that he was an African. Yes he was!
St Mark was born in the city of Cyrene in Pentapolis, the western part of Libya, west of the border of Egypt, The African History reports
He was born of Jewish parents three years after the birth of Jesus Christ and died on April 25, 68 AD, in Alexandria, Egypt.
St Mark, who was one of the seventy disciples of Jesus Christ sent to preach the gospel in Judea, was the author of the Gospel of Mark, the second book of the New Testament.
He was said to have founded the Church of Alexandria, one of the most important episcopal sees of early Christianity.
St Mark was born in the city of Cyrene in Pentapolis.

In other news, much is known about Yoruba linguist and the first African Anglican bishop in Nigeria, Ajayi Crowther, who translated the bible into Yoruba language, but little is known about where the bible is kept.
The Bible is currently being kept in the first storey building in Nigeria which is situated in the Badagry area of Lagos state.
Nigeria’s first storey building was built by Reverend Henry Townsend of the Church Missionary Society (CMS). The foundation of the building was laid in 1842 and the house was completed in 1845.
The first storey building is a tourist attraction which also has a well that is called the magical well.
