Andrew Simms, of Coleshill, North Warwickshire, who taught at a school in the Midlands, has denied a charge of sexual activity with a child.

A teacher and married father-of-two had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, a court heard.

Andrew Simms, of Coleshill, North Warwickshire, who taught at a school in the Midlands, has denied a charge of sexual activity with a child.

Prosecutors today told Birmingham Crown Court how Simms, 41, and the girl had started to exchange ‘flirty’ text and Snapchat messages.

The court heard that Simms claimed the girl had sent him a picture of herself in her underwear and he ‘felt trapped by her.’

David Swinnerton, prosecuting, said: ‘He then stupidly exchanged further messages.’

He said that the sex was consensual and matters came to light some months later.

He said the victim told two friends she had had sex with Simms and one of them had secretly recorded her on her mobile phone, the court was told.

The girl told police that they began a physical relationship and initially said it had begun after she was 16.

But, in another interview, she admitted it happened at an earlier date.

Mr Swinnerton said she had initially not told the truth because she had ‘feelings’ for Simms and wanted to ‘brush it under the carpet.’

Simms denied to police he was having sex with her.

Mr Swinnerton said the girl had given the police a pink suspender belt which, when forensically examined, was found to have Simms’s DNA on it.

When told this, he accepted he had sex with her but maintained it did not occur until she was 16.

The trial continues.
