Manchester United linked winger admits to being boyhood Red Devils fan ahead of possible January move

Champions League-chasing Manchester United is on the hunt for attacking reinforcements once the January window opens in the wake of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after the Red Devils recently parted ways with Portugal great Cristiano Ronaldo.

Erik ten Hag’s recuperating Old Trafford outfit will resume play in the Premier League on 27 December at home against Nottingham Forest while sitting just three points off Antonio Conte’s Tottenham while enjoying a match in hand.

But the return to action without Ronaldo is both a blessing and a curse for the English giants after the Portuguese gave a scathing interview with Piers Morgan that ultimately led to a severing of all ties between both parties, putting an end to his second stint at the Theatre of Dreams and ridding United of an influential bad apple.

Despite the relationship souring beyond repair, Ronaldo is still a world-class talent and was one of the only players in the senior squad in the forward line, which now constitutes just Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, and Antony, with a trio of youngsters in Anthony Elanga, Alejandro Garnacho, and Facundo Pellistri also in the senior set-up.

There could be an unlikely avenue that United can tap into in January, however, after the club continues to be linked with interest in United States international star Christian Pulisic. The Pennsylvania native recently dropped a possible hint that could bolster the club’s chances of securing him on a move that would see him leave Stamford Bridge after a disappointing period in the English capital after the 24-year-old versatile winger admitted to being a boyhood United fan according to quotes provided by the Mirror dating back to 2017 during an interview with ESPN.

“I was a big Manchester United fan when I was younger. I loved to watch [Wayne] Rooney. I wouldn’t say I’m a similar player, though. I think his passion for the game is something you don’t see much in players. That’s what I loved about him.”

Pulisic is currently on international duty with Gregg Berhalter’s young States squad that is set to clash with Iran tomorrow with the US needing a win to secure passage into the round of sixteen after a pair of draws with Wales and England sees them third in Group B.

Should Pulisic put his nation on his back once more, United’s interest could certainly increase further and would present an interesting option for the technical winger who has yet to truly take his chance since his arrival at Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.
