The ex-Sporting Lisbon captain nearly cost his side the match earlier on after he tripped Conor Gallagher in the box but had VAR to thank for an overturned penalty.

He made amends for his mistake minutes later, scoring the all-important goal from the 12 yards after Semi Ajayi was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Fernandes’ man of the match performance saw him earn praise from Scholes, who hailed his important role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. Scholes told BT Sport according to Metro UK.

“You do wonder where Man Utd would be without Fernandes. Before Bruno came in, United couldn’t create a chance.

Scholes sentiments were reiterated by former teammate Rio Ferdinand, who admitted Fernandes is a crucial squad member for Solskjaer.

“Everything comes through him [Fernandes],” Ferdinand admitted.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Bruno Fernandes’ spot-kick was all Manchester United needed to overcome stubborn West Bromwich Albion in a tough Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.

The victory saw the Red Devils claim their fourth league game of the ongoing season while also recording their first home win this campaign.

Spanish midfielder Juan Mata won the kick for the home team after his cross went to meet West Brom’s defender before the 26-year-old powered the penalty into the left corner of the post.
